Happy Labor Day weekend!! The fishing has been excellent this week with plenty of white marlin action from the 370 to the 420. The best has been in about 200 fathoms, but there are fish anywhere from 40 fathoms on out. The big eye tuna have been biting at night and a lot of boats have stayed late with great results. We weighed a 185 pound big eye this morning caught on the “Petrel”. The wahoo activity continues and there are loads of dolphin out there. Several boats are going out tomorrow and then it looks like the wind may blow on Saturday so that everyone can hit the dove fields. Next week, things should really heat up for us after the weekend’s north east wind. If you get out there tomorrow, good luck!!!
Fishing was outstanding over the weekend! Our boats that fished offshore released up to 12 white marlin and there are still several blue marlin hanging around. The “Trashman” released a dozen whites, “Contango” released a blue and 5 whites, and “Oblivion” released a blue marlin, a white marlin, and had 2 impressive big eye tuna. Way to go!! Several other boats fished over the weekend releasing 1-2 marlin and had great catches of mahi. The 19th Annual Virginia Beach Invitational Marlin Tournament kicks off on Wednesday, July 22nd. Good luck to all of the participants!

Happy Summer! The offshore fishing has started off great for us in Rudee Inlet! Fishing has been excellent from the Norfolk Canyon down to the 000’s! Boats have been bringing in 40-50 pound yellowfin tuna, all the gaffer dolphin you could want, and lots of blue marlin releases! For daily updates and pictures, visit us on our Facebook page– Fisherman’s Wharf Marina. We’re really looking forward to a great season!!
The offshore fishing has been great for the “Oblivion” over the past couple of weeks! Captain Dave Trax and his crew have been offshore a few times and caught several impressive bluefin tuna. Just yesterday, they ended their day with a big eye tuna and a beautiful catch of dolphin. Great job to Dave and all of the crew!
The charter boat “Reelin N Dealin” went south this morning, and returned back to the dock at 1:30 this afternoon with 2 impressive bluefin tuna. One fish weighed 405 pounds and the other weighed 180 pounds. It didn’t take long for the word to spread, and it looked like summertime around the marina. What a fun day! Great job to Captain Taylor Christian and his crew!
The marin fishing is starting to pick up for us just in time for the Wine, Women, and Fishing Ladies Billfish Tournament which takes place on Sunday, August 18th. Boats that fished offshore over the weekend each had some action and released a few billfish. The “Victory Lap” released 2 white marlin, the “Desperado” released 2 sailfish and a white marlin, the “Southern Belle” released 3 white marlin, and the “Juggernaut” released a white marlin. The bite should only get better from here…get your crew together and get out there. Good luck!
Yesterday we had a couple of boats fish offshore and their were a couple of white marlin caught and a citation dolphin. “Desperado” released 2 white marlin, and Elizabeth Smith fishing aboard the “Oblivion” registered a beautiful 26.0 pound dolphin for a citation award. The Ocean City White Marlin Open is going on this week, and four boats are fishing the tournament out of Rudee Inlet so we should have a pretty good billfish report from the Canyon. Good luck to all of the participants!
