Our marina is not just a place to dock your vessel; it’s a vibrant community with passionate boaters. Rudee Inlet
Rudee Inlet provides safe and reliable access to and from the Atlantic Ocean for Ocean-going transients. It is an essential destination located between Beaufort/Morehead City, NC to the south and Ocean City, Maryland to the north. This provides transiting boaters an opportunity to access safe and protected dockage in a vibrant, attractive coastal city.
Rudee Inlet is an important and highly popular stop for ocean-going transient boaters along the mid-Atlantic coast. Further, it is also host to numerous visiting sportfishermen each year, including those competing in local fishing contests such as the Virginia Beach Billfish Tournament (VBBT). This 4-day event attracts large sportfishing vessels from throughout the region on an annual basis. More than 80 boats competed in the 2022 VBBT tournament.
Marina History
Rudee Inlet is a man-made inlet made in the late 1960’s. The inlet opened to boat traffic
in 1968 with a fleet of charter boats arriving from Lynnhaven and Little Creek Inlets. One of the charter captains named Joe Weller opened the first marina in the inlet with about 12 slips, which is located where Fisherman’s Wharf presently sits today. The Fisherman’s Wharf team continues to be involved in the Virginia Beach community and aims to maintain the historical fishing culture of Rudee Inlet.
